Fate's Critical Hit: A 28-Year-Old Single Mother's Battle Against Cancer

I am Nguyen Thi Mai, 28 years old, from Hanoi, Vietnam, and a single mother. Last year, I was diagnosed with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma at a hospital in Hanoi due to symptoms of persistent weight loss and night sweats. This is a malignant tumor that usually requires aggressive treatment. However, the traditional CHOP chemotherapy regimen used by the local hospital did not bring the expected results. My white blood cell count dropped sharply and I was hospitalized many times due to infections. The doctor shook his head helplessly: "It's in the late stage, there's nothing we can do."

A life-saving signal in a desperate situation

Faced with such a diagnosis, I almost lost all hope. As a single mother, my biggest wish is to be able to accompany my daughter to grow up healthily. Just when I was almost desperate, I contacted Guangzhou R&F Hospital through the recommendation of the Vietnam Anti-Cancer Association. This hospital is famous for its advanced medical technology and multidisciplinary team collaboration.

Multidisciplinary consultation: the birth of a customized treatment plan

After an overnight consultation, the MDT (multidisciplinary team) decided to adopt an innovative treatment plan: laparoscopic lymphoma resection + PD-1 immunotherapy. The surgeon, Dr. Zhang, explained the advantages of this plan in detail: "Minimally invasive surgery can quickly reduce tumor burden, while PD-1 immunotherapy can activate your own immune system to fight cancer cells more effectively. This combination treatment is milder than chemotherapy alone and has fewer side effects."

Minimally invasive surgery: miracles created by three small holes

The surgery was very successful, leaving only three small holes in my abdomen. Amazingly, I was able to get out of bed and walk the day after the surgery! After the surgery, I injected immune drugs every two weeks. Compared with traditional chemotherapy, this treatment did not cause serious side effects such as hair loss and vomiting, and my physical strength gradually recovered. Four months later, a PET-CT scan showed that I had reached a cancer-free state!

Now, I can pick up my daughter from school and take her to the park to run on weekends. Looking at her happy smile, I feel extremely happy. I know that all this is due to the advanced medical technology of Guangzhou R&F Hospital and the professional care of medical staff. Looking back on my treatment experience in Vietnam, chemotherapy almost made me give up my life. The minimally invasive combined treatment in Guangzhou not only saved my life, but also gave me hope for life again. I want to thank every doctor and nurse who helped me. It is you who gave me a second life and allowed me to continue to accompany my daughter to grow up.
