Health Alert

I am Nguyen Van Cuong, a project manager at an auto parts company in Hanoi. While in charge of a cross-border project between China and Vietnam, I experienced abdominal pain and blood in my stool for three months. At first, I thought it was due to acclimatization and did not take it seriously. It was not until a colonoscopy that a cauliflower-like mass in the ascending colon was found - advanced colon cancer with liver metastasis. This diagnosis was like a bolt from the blue, and it plunged me into deep despair.

Difficult fight

Vietnamese doctors recommended open laparotomy to remove the tumor, supplemented with chemotherapy. Although the operation successfully removed the tumor, the postoperative stoma bag made me ashamed to see people and my quality of life was greatly reduced. The next six FOLFIRI chemotherapy regimens led to severe bone marrow suppression. My white blood cell count dropped to 1.5×10⁹/L, and I was out of breath even when climbing stairs. The most tormenting thing was the persistent dull pain in the liver area. Even after injecting pethidine, I still had difficulty falling asleep. During that period, I almost lost hope in life.

Dawn of life

At a gathering of friends, Ms. Lin shared her treatment experience at Guangzhou R&F Hospital: "Chinese doctors use minimally invasive targeted 'point-to-point removal' of tumors, and also combine cryotherapy to 'freeze' cancer cells to death!" Her words are like a beam of light, illuminating the darkness in my heart. Later, through video consultation, the Chinese medical team introduced their treatment methods in detail. They used AR technology to demonstrate minimally invasive targeted treatment combining traditional Chinese and Western medicine: drug-loaded microspheres are implanted through colonoscopy to accurately release chemotherapy drugs, and Chinese medicine extracts are used to inhibit metastasis according to genetic test results; cryotherapy uses ultrasound guidance to insert the probe into the tumor, and -196℃ liquid nitrogen instantly forms ice balls to kill cancer cells. These advanced technologies and comprehensive treatment plans have given me new hope.

Double redemption

In October 2024, I arrived at Guangzhou R&F Hospital with Vietnamese lotus tea and painkillers. The entire treatment process is full of technology and humanistic care. Targeted treatment: minimally invasive implantation of drug-loaded microspheres under colonoscopy, and beef pho can be eaten 3 hours after surgery. This precise treatment method greatly reduces the side effects of chemotherapy and improves the quality of life; cryosurgery: percutaneous puncture under local anesthesia, ablation is completed in 30 minutes, and normal diet is resumed the next day. Cryosurgery not only effectively kills cancer cells, but also recovers quickly without obvious discomfort; Combination of Chinese and Western medicine: Chinese medicine doctors use acupuncture to relieve my bloating problem, and nutritionists customize Vietnamese-style meals containing turmeric, which not only satisfies my taste, but also enhances my body's resistance; Cultural care: The hospital is equipped with Vietnamese translators to accompany me throughout the process, and there are lotus decorations and Vietnamese Buddhist scriptures in the ward, which makes me feel the warmth of home.

After three months of treatment, MRI showed that the liver metastases disappeared and CEA dropped from 150 to 2.1. Now, I can complete the inspection work of cross-border projects alone, and I can also accompany my daughter to learn Vietnamese bamboo pole dance on weekends. Life is back on track and I am full of confidence in the future.
